In the 19^th and 20^th centuries, people including the Hainanese relied on ships to do business around the world. Back in 1851 The Hainanese, on the way to the Southeast Asian countries of Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, etc., our 108 ancestors were robbed and killed by the Vietnamese coast guard, which falsely reported to the Vietnamese government that the Hainanese were pirates.

At the award ceremony, the King’s hand shook so hard that his pen fell from his hand and also felt very dizzy when the King was going to award the coast guard in this massacre. The King become suspicious and thought deeply about why the coast guards only show the evidence by cutting these pirates’s ears but not their heads and also why burn the ship, something does not make any sences, that night our 108 Hainanese Ancestors manifested a spirit that made the Vietnamese King dream about them and voiced their innocence, making the King order an investigation which uncovered the truth.

As a result, the King named our ancestors 昭 應 忠 魂 英 烈The Loyal Hero Souls. After the Hainanese in Vietnam heard this story and confirmed, they built the temple to worship them. 昭 應  忠 魂 英 烈一 百 有 八 兄 弟公The 108 Loyal Hero Soul Brother Gong. This spiritually helped the Hainanese and believers during times of danger and hardship including the time we fled Vietnam by boat in dangerous seas, with a few hundred people in a single boat. As we rode in the boats, many people praised our 108 ancestors and the Theon Hou Empress, as many people witnessed the spirit helping us survive the dangerous storms and high waves. We will never forget those dangerous, life-threatening moments and appreciate life so much in a very meaningful way. As a result, we believe more in this religious: Ancestors Veneration.
